Together with the technology company Ammil GmbH, they produce diamonds in Muotathal (Canton Schwyz) under environmentally friendly conditions. 90% of the energy comes from the Muota river, the rest from solar and biomass energy.

But how is such a laboratory diamond created? Quite simply: a tiny diamond sliver is flooded with carbon-rich gas in a vacuum chamber and heated to 900 to 1200 degrees. “This creates a plasma cloud that crystallizes the carbon,” explains co-founder Niels Schaefer. It takes two to four weeks to “grow” a diamond of one carat - i.e. 0.2 grams. The price? Around 5,000 francs per carat.

Sounds fair, doesn't it? Luxury for everyone, but with a clear conscience.
